Women's Video Gaming Experiences
You are invited to participate in a research study of women’s experiences playing video games. You were selected as a possible subject because you are a woman of 18 years or older who engages in video gameplay. We ask that you read this form and ask any questions you may have before agreeing to be in the study.
The study is being conducted by Natalie Stevenson, Keiko McCullough and Dr. Joel Wong in the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology at Indiana University Bloomington.
The purpose of this study is to examine women’s experiences playing video games. A video game is an interactive game played on a gaming device such as a console or a computer. For the purposes of this study, we do not consider games played on mobile/cellular devices to be video games.
PROCEDURES FOR THE STUDY:

If you agree to be in the study, you will participate in an online survey which will take roughly 15-20 minutes to complete.
RISKS AND BENEFITS
There are no significant risks associated with your participation except for the minimal discomfort which may come with answering questions about your gender experiences. There is also a risk of loss of confidentiality.
There is no direct benefit to participation but we hope one possible benefit of participating in this research is recognition that your voice has been heard in research.
Efforts will be made to keep your personal information confidential. We cannot guarantee absolute confidentiality. Your personal information may be disclosed if required by law. Your identity will be held in confidence in reports in which the study may be published and databases in which your results may be stored. All surveys and relevant data will be kept securely with the principal investigators.
Organizations that may inspect and/or copy your research records for quality assurance and data analysis include groups such as the study investigator and his/her research associates, the Indiana University Institutional Review Board or its designees, and (as allowed by law) state or federal agencies, specifically the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP).
Upon completion of the data collection, you will be given the opportunity to enter in a drawing for a $25 Amazon gift card as an incentive for your participation in the study. Please provide your email address if you wish to enter the drawing. You have a 1 in 150 chance of receiving this gift card.

VOLUNTARY NATURE OF STUDY
Taking part in this study is voluntary. You may choose not to take part or may leave the study at any time. Leaving the study will not result in any penalty or loss of benefits to which you are entitled. Your decision whether or not to participate in this study will not affect your current or future relations with Indiana University Bloomington.
This research is intended for individual 18 years of age or older. If you are under age 18, do not complete the survey.
This research is for residents of the United States. If you are not a U.S. resident, do not complete the survey.
